‘Green Angels’ expand services to other centres

Posted by The National

THE St John Ambulance (SJA) will open two ambulance stations in Lae and Kokopo this year, SJA chairman Dame Jean Kekedo announced on Saturday.
She said SJA was aiming to ensure that its services reached everyone nationwide.
“We are on our journey of expanding SJA services after making our mark in the capital.
“We now want to spread across the country under the leadership of SJA Commissioner Matt Cannon.
“With the support of his passionate team, there has been significant success in the level of hospital care for our people,” Kekedo said at the SJA gala fundraising dinner in Port Moresby on Saturday.
Governor-General and SJA president Sir Bob Dadae said in his keynote address at the gala dinner: “I am delighted that we are opening ambulance institutions in Papua New Guinea to bring vital services nationwide.
“SJA is growing from strength to strength because of support from government, partners and stakeholders.
“ We are grateful for your contributions to the health of the people in this country, and for SJA to continue with its mercy work.”
Cannon said: “It is no easy task but we aim to have the most comprehensive list of hospitals, health centres and of course ambulance service network.
“Central, East New Britain and Morobe are the priorities for this year and early next year followed by the Highlands.”
Cannon also thanked the Department of Health, among many others, for helping the success of SJA and its daily services.
The National SJA Council acknowledged all the Members of Parliament, dignitaries and SJA partners and stakeholders present to show their support for the work of the “Green Angels” (SJA).
