Posted on The National
STUDENTS from the four provinces of PNG LNG project area will have a chance to benefit from a scholarship through operator ExxonMobil in collaboration with the Business & Professional Women’s (BPW) Association.
During the launch of the scholarship in Port Moresby last week, managing director Andrew Barry said ExxonMobil was committed to building human, social and economic capacity to benefit people, communities and businesses over the long term.
He said a K300,000 grant would help tertiary and vocational students from Hela, Southern Highlands, Gulf and Central.
Hela Governor Phillip Undialu, Gulf Governor Chris Haiveta and Central Governor Robert Agarobe were also present to show their support. “We have long said education is the cornerstone to Papua New Guinea’s future,” Barry said.
“It is our hope that this programme will positively impact youth from the PNG LNG project areas by proving them with the opportunity to further their education so that they can return and contribute to the development of their communities and the nation.”
A minimum of thirty scholarships will be awarded to students with relevant entry-level qualifications from across PNG LNG project areas next year.
BPW president Jessinta Wagambie said the new partnership would provide enhanced career opportunities for young people.
She said the partnership was opening up new ground for them.
